PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid) to termoplastyczny poliester alifatyczny pochodzący ze źródeł odnawialnych, takich jak kukurydza, maniok, trzcina cukrowa, zboża lub burak cukrowy.
Ten rodzaj tworzywa termoplastycznego, pochodzący z zasobów biologicznych, może ulegać biodegradacji w odpowiednich warunkach. Dlatego PLA ma mniejszy wpływ na środowisko w porównaniu z innymi tworzywami termoplastycznymi pochodzącymi z paliw kopalnych.
